Since 1981, Ontario's grain farmers have increased our land use efficiency by 35% while reducing the amount of energy we use by 28%. Canadian grain farmers have saved over 170,000,000 litres of fuel each year, or the equivalent of taking 122,000 cars off the road. The result is a greater yield on the sustainable grains that feed Ontario with a smaller environmental footprint.
The government of Canada has recognized these efforts and the commitment our grain farmers have made to a more sustainable future while acknowledging that those contributions have come at a cost.
