Reducing our country’s reliance on fossil fuels is a critical step in reaching a net-zero carbon future. And Ontario’s grain farmers can help.
We are asking the Canadian government to guarantee that the Clean Fuel Standard does not limit Ontario grain farmers and ensures that we continue to provide a competitive and growing market for corn and soybeans. The Clean Fuel Standard that was proposed had limitations on land use that discouraged farmers from planting and growing biofuel crops. These proposed changes do not consider the sustainability efforts that farmers already make or the competitive advantage that will benefit other countries selling corn and soybeans into Canada for biofuels.
Implementing these changes would have disastrous effects on grain farmers. We are asking the government to commit to their promise that the CleanFuel Standard does not contain any limitations for farm crops that are designated for biofuels.
